We believe that engineering education must begin with empathy and purpose. That’s why we offer Design Thinking for Social Innovation as a signature course for our first-year students.
Through this course, we encourage our students to step out of the classroom, connect with communities, and understand the complex social challenges that people face every day. Guided by the design thinking process—Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test—our students learn to frame problems meaningfully and create impactful solutions.
Across the first and second semesters, our students work in small teams and spend time in real social settings to identify root causes and develop practical responses. Their learning culminates in Avinya Varsh and Avinya Shishir, our project exhibitions that showcase how young engineers can drive social change and even spark social entrepreneurship.
With the support of 20 dedicated faculty members, we have empowered 550+ students to deliver 115+ innovative solutions to challenges identified in schools, healthcare centers, old age homes, orphanages, villages, and many more community spaces across Belagavi.
